Steps to Take & Onboard Process

1. Ensure that you meet the requirements listed below.
2. Download and complete the City of Texas City job application form (Word document)
3. Email your completed application to
4. If selected, you will be contacted to take a written examination on computer.
5. If you pass the written exam, you will complete a physical agility test.
6. If you pass the physical agility test, you will be given a personal history statement to complete.
7. Your personal history statement will be assigned to a background investigator.
8. Applicants subject to a polygraph examination.
9. After passing the background investigation and or polygraph examination the applicant will be scheduled an oral board interview.
10. If the oral board recommends you for hire you will be scheduled for an interview with the Police Chief and Assistant Police Chief.
11. The Chiefs make a decision on extending a conditional offer of employment.
12. Human resources schedules you a physical (medical) screening, a drug/alcohol analysis screening and a psychological evaluation.
13. After completing and successfully passing all the above steps the Chief of Police swears you in as a police officer.
1. TCOLE certified or currently enrolled in a basic peace officer licensing course
2. Have reached his/her 21st birthday prior to appointment to position of Police Officer.
3. Fingerprinted and subjected to state, local and national criminal records check.
4. Not been on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above a grade of Class B misdemeanor for the last ten (10) years.
5. Not have been convicted of any class B or above misdemeanor, excluding traffic violations within the last sever (7) years.
6. Not been convicted of any family (domestic) violence related offense.
7. Not have been convicted of a prior felony offense.
8. Be of good moral character.
9. Be subjected to a thorough, comprehensive background investigation and interview.
10. Completed high school, or, possess a valid G.E.D.
11. Meet or exceed minimum TCOLE standards for future certification and/or possess a certification at time of employment.
12. All applicants must pass medical, mental and drug testing requirements.
13. Not have been discharged from any military service under less than honorable conditions.
14. Must have an insurable driving record according to the city’s insurance policy.
15. Not have been convicted of more than give (5) moving violations within the past three (3) years.
16. Have no prior DWI / DUI convictions
17. Have no convictions of any crime involving moral turpitude.
18. Not have previously left the employment of this agency under other than honorable conditions.
19. Possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
